Now that we have been stuck at home for a long period of time, it is time to step away from the couch, turn off Netflix, and start thinking of ways to improve ourselves. 

There are a lot of ways you can improve your skills and your health during lockdown, and while you have more time on your hands it makes sense to make the most of it. Here are some of the fun skills and useful things you can teach yourself during lockdown that will broaden your personal and professional skill set for the future. 


Although painting and art might not seem like the most important skill in the world to learn, it can be a wonderful chance to try something new and discover a new hobby. Painting can be wonderful and there are many amazing artists online that create beautiful pieces. Use a class on skillshare or videos on YouTube to learn to paint and make the most of your free time. 

Write a book 

Writing is a skill that can be important for all parts of life. From personal letters to professional documents; you need to know how to write engaging content. If you are bored during quarantine and are looking for something to occupy your time; why not try writing a book? Use writing prompts online or use music to give you story ideas, and explore your own imagination. Writing is great for personal development and it also allows you to explore your own creative talents. 


Leadership is a skill most of us will need eventually if we are ever to aim for a management or directors role. If you want to move up the ladder in your chosen career, leadership development is key and now is a good time to learn some skills you can take back with you when you return to work. Showing your boss you are capable of these things will be helpful for you in the future and it will allow you to prove yourself and be put forward for promotions.

There are lots of wonderful skills you can learn during lockdown, and even if you only learn one new thing it will improve your life and allow you to come out of this as a better person.
