By  |

Surgery is not just for medical purposes. These are the most common surgeries you might want to be considering right now.

How many selfies have you taken today alone? We’re living in a selfie-obsessed world where people go to great lengths to perfect their looks. The desire to have a perfectly filtered look, whether in photographs or in real life, has never been stronger, and with it comes the need for cosmetic surgeries.

The number of cosmetic surgeries is growing by the day, with technology and research advancing it to greater heights. What are the most common surgeries, though? There are so many types of cosmetic surgeries, but in this post, we’ll be looking at the most common surgeries that even you might want to consider.

  1. Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is, by far, one of the most common surgeries with over 300,000 surgeries in the US every year. Breast augmentation is done for several reasons, going from enlarging breasts to making them equal in size or replacing one that’s missing. Some women opt for the surgery if their breasts don’t develop as much as they would have wanted during puberty.

Referred to as a Boob Job, breast augmentation involved transferring fat from any part of the body to the breasts or using artificial implants. Saline or silicone implants are used, with silicone getting more popular with time. Healing from breast augmentation takes about two weeks without high impact activities.

  1. Liposuction

Liposuction is the second most common cosmetic surgery, and it involves the removal of excess fats from various parts of the body. Liposuction can be performed on most parts of the body, including the abdomen, hips, cheeks, butt, thighs, chin, and just about anywhere else.

Most people go for liposuction to achieve a slimmer and contoured body appearance, but the procedure works for cellulite and obesity as well. There are two types of liposuction, which are Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction and tumescent liposuction.

  1. Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is also surprisingly among the most common surgeries. This procedure can be performed on both the top and bottom eyelids and treats saggy skin, drooping, or puffiness. Sometimes, the procedure is done to improve vision if the eyelids are found to be the obstruction.

Too much skin or sagging skin on the eyelid can contribute to impaired vision or an aging appearance. At times, lower eyelids can have chronic puffiness wrinkles, and the surgery gives an individual a youthful appearance.

  1. Fat Grafting

Also known as fat transfer, this is a procedure that transfers fat from one part of your body to another. Fat can be transferred from any part of the body with excess fat, and transferred to various areas, including breasts, hollowed-out regions on the face, and buttocks.

The procedure is used to combat aging and achieve sculpting and greater appearance. If this procedure sounds more appealing than liposuction, you can learn more about it.

  1. Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, which is essentially a lower body lift. The procedure removes excess skin from the abdominal area, tightening the skin that remains in the process. Most of the time, this cosmetic surgery is performed on women with excess skin after pregnancy or after losing weight.

  1. Soft Tissue Filling

Soft tissue fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are becoming more and more common, and just like botox, they change appearance on the neck and face. Unlike botox, however, these fillers don’t ‘freeze’ the face, so to speak. They restore volume in areas injected.

Typically, soft tissue fillers are filled with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. It is known to make the skin look youthful and plump, making this one of the most common surgeries. Even though this substance occurs naturally, the production subsides with age, making the skin appear loose and thin.

With dermal fillers, the substance is injected into the skin artificially to create that plump look and lessen the wrinkles and fine lines.

  1. Rhytidectomy and Forehead Lift

Also known as a facelift, rhytidectomy is the perfect surgical solution to the sagging and the wrinkles that come with old age. A facelift procedure tightens the skin, leaving a youthful appearance, minimizing sagging, and smoothening all the deep lines. Sometimes, individuals choose to combine a facelift with a forehead lift, skin peels, or eyelid surgery to create a better look.

A forehead lift is similar to a facelift, and the procedure pulls the skin tighter, removing wrinkles and smoothening the creases. This is a common cosmetic surgery because it treats so many things, from hooded eyelids, to frown lines and forehead furrows. The eyebrows become alert, giving an individual a youthful look.

  1. Gynecomastia Treatment

This is specifically a male surgery procedure used to reduce any excess amounts of male breast tissues. Most of the time, it’s a permanent procedure if the result of the tissue is due to genetics. It could be that the breasts developed excess tissue after the use of marijuana or steroids.

For these men, even after surgery, breast growth will continue if they continue to use these substances. It is essential that they stop using them prior to the surgery to avoid regrowth, and necessitating a second surgery. During the surgery, the surgeon makes an incision around the nipple in a way that won’t be visible after healing.

  1. Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is almost as common as breast augmentation, and it’s among the few cosmetic surgeries that most insurance companies pay for. Women with large or heavy breasts may find it hard to find clothes that fit, experience poor posture due to the weight, or suffer chronic back pain. A breast reduction surgery is ideal for reducing the size and weight of the breasts, improving the posture, and relieving back pain.

  1. Rhinoplasty

This list would not be complete without rhinoplasty, which is one of the most common surgeries. Also known as a nose job, rhinoplasty reshapes the nose and balances it with the face.

The surgery depends on individual wants, and one could have the overall size reduced or have certain areas refined to make it more appealing. In some cases, this can be a medical surgery due to breathing issues or a deviated septum.
