5 Ways to Give Your Self Confidence a Huge Boost

If there is one thing that can set you up for success in anything you do, that’s self-confidence! As long as you believe in yourself, those around you will believe in you as well. While it might seem like a given, self-esteem is something that we all have to work on every single day of our lives. In fact, so many of us need a boost in their self-confidence. Unfortunately, there is no magic spell, no secret recipe to self-love, there are a few things you can try to do to improve the opinion you have of yourself. Here are 5 of them:

1. Conquer Your Imperfections

None of us are perfect and it’s our imperfections that make us beautiful, or at least some of them. There are two types of imperfections – those that can be embraced and those that can be conquered. If there is something about yourself that you profoundly dislike, if that feature has made you feel bad about yourself, then change it! Life’s too short to let fixable things eat away at us! For instance, if you’re overweight and you’ve tried all the diets and exercise programs and you still haven’t reached the results you’re aiming for, then don’t be scared to ask for extra help! 2. Stop Looking Into the Grim Scenarios Your Mind Makes Up

Throughout our lives, we gather disappointments, frustrations, disillusions, and many other negative feelings that linger in our subconscious ready to pop up when we least expect it. There are minute triggers that can bring out old wounds that we might have even forgotten about. This happens all the time, but especially when our self-esteem is low, when the subconscious becomes hyperactive. Then, as you’re sitting at the office, trying to concentrate on your work, you find yourself drifting away and thinking about some grim scenario that you can’t realize how you got to and that gets darker and darker the more you think about it. The secret to fighting this off is simply realizing as it happens that it’s just your subconscious acting out. This is something that you can control, so you can just tell your brain to stop. Put that scenario in a box and go back to work. Don’t be surprised if the scenario comes knocking back. You may have to stop it a few times, at least in the beginning. In time, you will learn to control it and realize that these scenarios have nothing to do with reality, and everything to do with your fears.

3. Stop the Compare-and-Despair Cycle of Horrors

Comparing ourselves to others is more often than not a terrible idea, but especially when your self-esteem is low. When you’re feeling unhappy with yourself, it’s all too easy to believe that those around you have it all together. In fact, it only takes a few minutes on social media to be reminded of all the ways that others are so much better than yourself. And the further you go on that path, the worse you will feel about yourself. When you’re going through a rough patch, what you actually see in the success of others is all the things you expected to have achieved, yet haven’t. Each of us has their own journey and you have to remember that it’s worth experiencing the journey rather than always looking ahead and obsessing over milestones you haven’t passed yet.

4. Exercise Your Way to Happiness

Exercise is important not only for the body but also for the mind. To put it in the wise words of Elle Woods, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.” It’s as simple as that. When you exercise, your body produces endorphins, which actually tell your brain to make you feel happy. On the other hand, a sedentary lifestyle is extremely poor in endorphins, which also makes it poor in happiness. So, even if you don’t want to lose weight or buff up your body, exercise to feel better! You can try yoga or stretching, which are excellent ways to relax.

5. Forgive Yourself and Those Around You

This is probably the most difficult item on our list. Forgiving others is hard and forgiving yourself is even harder, but carrying around the weight of your frustrations, your anger, your hatred is going to leave you feeling tired and unhappy. Try to leave the past behind, along with all the bad things that came with it. Let go of hatred because holding on to it will do nothing good for you. Try to forgive yourself for hurting others. Instead of punishing yourself over and over for your past mistakes, let them stay in the past so that you can concentrate on doing better in the future. Forgive yourself and work on building a better version of yourself!
