How To Get More Enjoyment Out Of Exercise

By  |

For many of us, exercise is a chore. We make ourselves get off the couch and go for a run, purely because we feel like we have to. The good news is that there are ways to get more enjoyment out of exercise. If you’re keen to reap the health benefits of an active lifestyle and have fun, here are some steps to take today.

Switch up your training regime

Even the most dedicated gym bunny can lose motivation if they do the same thing day in, day out. When we talk about getting fit, we tend to automatically conjure up images of treadmills and weights, but there are myriad ways to get in shape. Switching up your training regime to incorporate different activities and try new things is a brilliant way to make working out more fun and increase motivation levels. If you usually go to the gym 3-4 times per week, drop down to 1-2 times and do classes, go swimming or cycling, play team sports or get out into the great outdoors and climb, kayak or hike on the other days. There are so many active hobbies and different sports you can enjoy.

Spruce up your workout wardrobe

Most of us love to treat ourselves to some new threads from time to time. If you’ve been wearing the same vests and leggings for years, or you can’t remember the last time you invested in a new pair of sneakers, now is the time to spruce up your workout wardrobe. If you’ve got a fabulous pair of pink shimmer leggings or a brand new training top, you’ll feel more confident and you’ll be more inclined to stick to your training program. Look online for ideas and choose items that are both fun and functional. You need to make sure that you are comfortable when you’re exercising.

Be more sociable

Working out on your own can get boring. Instead of going for a solo run or hitting the gym alone, try and be more sociable. Invite friends to run with you, go for a hike with your sister or your mom, or join classes and meet new people. Working out with a buddy can be more fun, and it can also push you to work harder and get more out of your session. Most of us respond positively to competition.

Celebrate the milestones

Many of us start a fitness regime with a goal in mind. Every time you reach a milestone, celebrate your successes and reward yourself. If you manage to complete a 10k run, or you’ve smashed your personal best for a 200m sprint, why not go out for dinner or enjoy some retail therapy, for example?

Exercise is often seen as a chore, but it’s so beneficial for our health and wellbeing. If you struggle to find the motivation to be active, hopefully, these simple steps will help you get more enjoyment out of exercise. Have fun, be sociable, try new activities, treat yourself to some trendy gym wear and don’t forget to celebrate your achievements.
