4 Pro Tips for Making Working from Home More Productive

By  |

Working from home is new to a lot of us, and adjusting to the new way of things can be pretty challenging. But you can make the transition easier by setting yourself up for success.

To do that, you’ll need to carve out a workspace at home and get some decent work attire, among other things. If you’re ready to take your work-at-home game to the next level, there are a few things you can do. Here are four tips for making working from home productive.

1. Carve Out a Workspace

Working from home productively requires having a workspace that allows you to perform at your best. If you have a desk in your room or another area of your house, that’s your best bet. But if you don’t, think about buying one or making room at your dining room table or your kitchen table, if possible.

Don’t work from the bed or couch, and make sure you have plenty of light to keep you focused and productive. Additionally, make sure you have a strong Wi-Fi connection and start making your workspace your own just like you would if you were in an office.

2. Get a Little Black Dress

A little black dress isn’t just for going out on the town. In fact, the perfect one should be versatile enough to go from work to happy hour without a hitch. A little black dress is a perfect solution to dressing well while staying comfortable when working from home. From mini and fitted dresses to midi and tube dresses, find a style that suits any dress code. Pair it with a cute blazer and some accessories and you’ll be good to go for your next Zoom meeting.

3. Get Your Mindset Right

If you want to be productive while working, you have to first get in the right mindset. For starters, eliminate all distractions and take frequent breaks. Working from home isn’t easy for a lot of people, especially those who work better in groups. But if you take steps to get yourself in the right mindset, you can learn to work from home productively.

That might mean creating a daily work schedule, dressing the part and keeping in constant communication with your co-workers. Creating a daily work schedule can help keep you on track when it comes to completing tasks, while dressing the part and keeping in communication with co-workers can help you feel as if you’re in the office.

4. Make Sure You Have the Right Equipment

Depending on what kind of work you do, your job might require certain equipment to work effectively from home. For example, if you’re a transcriptionist or caption editor, you might need a foot pedal and special software to do your work. Likewise, if you’re a customer service rep, you’ll need a noise-canceling headset that works with your office phone.

Whatever office equipment you need, make sure you get it so that you can do your job to the best of your abilities. Oftentimes, the company you work for will provide this equipment free of charge but won’t replace it if you break it. So, get the equipment (or replacement equipment) you need to work from home productively. That might mean getting a printer, scanner, filing cabinet, office phone, shredder or stationery.

Setting Yourself Up for Success

With these four pro tips, you can start taking steps to ensure each workday is more productive than the last. Whether you need to carve out your own workspace, get in the right mindset, or make sure you have the right tools and equipment, it’s important you do what’s needed to ensure you’re set up for success when working from home.
