When to start preparing for Christmas

By  |

Although it might seem like forever away, there are only four pay cheques left till Christmas. If Santa is getting ready for the main event, you may be wondering if it’s finally time to start getting prepared yourself!

We may have only just passed summer, but there’s no escaping the fact that there are only around 115 sleeps until the big day. Before we know it the 25th December will be upon us, and by getting ready now, it will save you a lot of time (and potentially stress) later down the line!

Why should you prepare early?

One of the main driving factors to preparing early is saving money. By splitting the costs of buying presents and other bits and bobs over the next couple of months, it’ll mean you’re less likely to fall into financial difficulty at one of the most expensive times of the year.

Whether you’re a lover of Christmas or not, start by making a list of everything you need. If you’re hosting, you’ll need to account for feeding everyone (and then extra if you have big eaters), as well as making sure you have enough alcohol and soft drinks, snacks and other goodies like advent calendars for the family

Work out a budget

The most important thing is not to overstretch yourself financially. If you’re hosting the family, consider asking for a little contribution before the big day! Writing a list will help you to work out roughly how much the overall cost for everything will be.

If you have children, you may also want to work out how much you’ll be spending on each of them, that way when you head to the shops the costs don’t get away with you. It can be easy to want to treat them to absolutely everything you see!

Start filling your calendar

It may sound silly, but November and December can fill your calendar dates up quickly! If you already have regular events that happen each year, make sure get these dates in early, that way you lower the risk of double booking yourself.

Pop everything in from Christmas parties, school events, family gatherings, when the children break up for school and anything else that might slip your mind with all the busyness.

Get your recipes in order

Thanks to celebrity chefs, cooking programmes and Instagram videos will provide you with all the inspiration you need to cook up an amazing meal! Christmas specials can be found online and many chefs post multiple recipes on their websites.

If you have a Gran who has a signature dish, get her onboard with the cooking too, that way you’re sharing the load and the stress.

Preparing early for the 25th December will save you so much time, anxiety and money. By following these steps you’ll be ahead of the game – and the rush of last minute shoppers!
