4 Simple Ways You Can Improve Your Smile

When you meet people one of the first things they will notice about you is your smile, but if you feel self-conscious about yours then this isn’t what you want to hear. If you have always dreamed of having bright, white, healthy-looking teeth, there are ways you can achieve this. While a beautiful smile doesn’t happen overnight, there are a few things you can do to help improve it, and over time, you will learn how to smile with confidence! Whiten your teeth

One of the quickest and easiest ways to improve your smile is by whitening your teeth. This is a common procedure that many people have to help them brighten up their teeth. There are many reasons why your teeth may be looking slightly discolored compared to other peoples. If you drink coffee, tea, or red wine, this can stain your teeth. Smoking can also cause your teeth to look discolored, and certain medications can do this too. 

If you want to whiten your teeth, there are many ways to go about this. With a range of products available such as toothpaste, rinses, strips, and trays. Which product you need will depend on the level of discoloration. If it’s a slight discoloration caused by food and drink, then toothpaste and rinses are the better options. If your teeth are badly stained, then you should consider getting custom trays which will offer quick and effective results. 

Practice good oral health

If you want your smile to look great then you need good oral health. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, ideally in the morning and night for two minutes. If you skip brushing your teeth it can cause plaque to harden and turn into tartar. Brushing your teeth regularly will help them stay white, clean, and healthy.

It’s also important to floss daily as this will remove plaque between your teeth and from under your gumlines. Even though you brush often, there are some bits of plaque that your toothbrush can’t reach. When you floss each day, it can prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

You should consider switching your manual toothbrush to an electric one if you haven’t already. Electric toothbrushes can remove more plaque than a standard toothbrush and help you achieve healthier gums. Although electric toothbrushes are more expensive, they will last you for years, all you need to change is the head. 

Remember to go for your routine checkup with your dentist every six months, or sooner if you have any issues with your teeth. 

Watch what you eat and drink

As we mentioned before, certain foods and drinks can cause your teeth to stain. If you have decided to whiten your teeth, you need to consider what you are putting in your mouth, as if you continue to drink coffee or tea, for example, it will cause the discoloration to come back. It’s best to try and cut out anything that is likely to cause this issue, here are a few things:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Red wine
  • Cola
  • Fruit juices
  • Soy sauce
  • Red meat
  • Curry
  • Tomatoes
  • Dark berries

If you can’t cut any of these foods and drinks out, try to limit your intake of each one. You could also use a straw with your drinks which will help keep the liquid from staining your teeth. 

Another tip is to rinse your mouth with water after eating if you have something that could stain your teeth. It’s recommended that you wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth if you’ve had something with acid in it, as it could damage the enamel if you brush any sooner. 

Remember to drink plenty of tap water as it has the recommended dosage of fluoride but can help keep your teeth clean and prevent tooth decay. 

Give up smoking

One of the simplest ways you can improve your teeth is to quit smoking. This is one of the biggest causes of discolored teeth and can often be polished off easily but it can stain the enamel and turn them yellow, making it harder to whiten your teeth and ruining your chances of a bright, healthy smile. Not only that, but smoking can damage your gums and can make it more difficult to reverse gum disease.
