Moving to a new location can be both an exciting and exhausting time. There are so many things you need to consider before making the switch, and sometimes people get so caught up with the idea of a new home in a new place that they forget to check some important details. If you are thinking of moving to a new location, here are four things you need to consider.

What is the crime rate like?

When moving to a new location you want to feel reassured that you are moving to a safe area. You will need to do thorough research into this, as driving around the neighborhood won’t tell you all you need to know. You may think it looks like a safe neighborhood during the day, but it could be completely different at night. Try speaking to people who live there who may be able to give you further insight. Look online to find the stats for crimes in the area you are looking to move to.

Is there a suitable infrastructure?

One thing people don’t typically think about is the local infrastructure. Things such as water, power, waste, and digital communications within the area all play a part in your everyday life. When you move house you will want to make sure you have things like fast-running internet and good cell phone coverage. If there is a cell phone tower in the area you are considering moving to, it can be off-putting, but there are pros and cons of cell phone towers that you should look into before buying a new home. Another thing to consider is the layout of the roads, as you won’t want to be near a busy road but you also don’t want to be too isolated.

Is public transport good?

If you don’t drive or own a car, you will need to make sure that public transport is good and easily accessible in the new location. You don’t want to move somewhere and discover that you have no easy way to get to work or the shops in a timely manner. Find out what the local bus and train services are like, how often they leave/arrive, and if you can get to different nearby areas without changing multiple times.

What are the local amenities like?

Everyone requires different amenities and it does depend on your circumstances. But it’s important to have local amenities such as a good-sized supermarket, local schools, a pharmacy, a post office, a doctor’s office, a dentist, a local library, etc. Having these things close by will make your life much easier in the long run. Try to make a checklist of things you will need or things you may need further down the line as you don’t want to have to travel to a different area each time you need to send a parcel or get a routine dental checkup.

If you are considering moving to a new location, it’s worth asking yourself the four questions mentioned in this post as it can help you find the ideal location that will suit your lifestyle.
