Staycation Essentials

By  |

It’s official: staycations are here to stay. They started off a necessity – thanks to the pandemic – but people across the UK have realized just how much of the country they can explore. If you’re planning a staycation soon, have a read of our top location tips and what you need to pack.

Pick a Location

First things first, you’ll need to decide where you’re going. The UK is full of beautiful spots – from the lush beaches down in Devon to the majestic mountains in the Scottish Highlands. Park Holidays rounded up their favorite autumn/winter getaway spots for those of you looking to get away during the colder months. You need to think about what you want from the holiday: sunbathing by the beach, or cozying up in a cottage? Pick a destination which you think you’ll get the most from.

Prepare for Weather

We all know how versatile the weather can be in the UK. Even in summer, it can switch from sunshine to showers in seconds. As for winter, you can definitely count on some grey skies and dropping temperatures. Whatever time you decide to go you need to be prepared for the elements. In winter make sure to pack plenty of layers to keep warm. In summer think lighter outfits, suncream, and bug spray. Don’t forget the waterproof jacket.

Entertainment

Even though you’ve picked and prepared to enjoy a place for whatever the weather, it’s still a good idea to pack some entertainment for yourself. You can use the staycation as a chance to read that book you’ve meant to read. You can also bring the ever-reliable pack of cards. Is a British getaway complete without a board game night? There are so many choices, you might want to pack more than one.

Household Items

The following won’t be the most glamorous items on your packing list but nonetheless, they’re important. You want to have a basic medical kit with painkillers, plasters, and antiseptic wipes. You’ll need your toiletries. Plus, a top tip for packing: never underestimate the power of a ziplock bag. It saves you so much space, and can also be a place to store dirty laundry.

No matter what time of year you decide to go, or wherever in the country you end up, a staycation is a perfect chance for you to get away and switch off from the rest of the world. Where is your ideal staycation destination in the UK?
