How to prepare yourself for long bike rides

By  |

If you have recently purchased a bike and are craving long rides with your machine, then you should know that it could be extremely punishing on your body if you are not well prepared. Since you have to be sitting on your bike for a long tie, you need to know about a few things before you actually start to go out on such a trip. You can think of it as an exercise that could trouble you initially, but with more rides and practice, it would become easier for you. However, if you follow the below-mentioned tips and tricks, those initial riding days can become a lot more comfortable for you and your pillion as well.

Start strengthening your back

One of the major areas that might get stressed while riding is your back. Since your back muscles are not used to sitting in the same position while riding for a long time, it might be the one area that you might feel stressed while in the middle of the ride. Therefore, it would be great if you can start stretching your back muscles immediately at least 2-3 weeks before you start riding. It would be enough time for your back muscles to reshape themselves and increase the capacity of taking more stress. This would help your body to deal with serious fatigue on long rides and will make you a lot more comfortable as well.

Eat light and don’t overstuff

Having a healthy gut while riding on a bike is one of the most important things. No one wants that heavy or uncomfortable feeling while riding the bike. Make sure to eat light and healthy one to two days before you start riding. It would not only allow your body to be relaxed while driving but will also make sure that you do not have any kind of health issues on the way.

Sleep enough and hydrate well

One of the major issues that people face on long bike rides is that they start feeling sleepy or way too thirsty, due to which they need to take steps at regular intervals, something that people on long rides do not appreciate. Therefore, make sure that you have had 7-8 hours of sleep and rest before driving, and also make sure that your body stays hydrated enough.

Check your bike

One of the most important points, before you leave for a long bike ride, is to get it checked properly. Engine oil, chain lubrication, and other things need to be properly checked before you take off. Things like puncture kits, air inflators should also be carried in case you face a tire puncture on the way. Such things will make sure that your bike does not breakdown in the middle of the road and spoil the fun that you were having along the way.

Carry your accessories and pack properly

One of the major issues that people face while packing for long bike rides is missing things and packing in the wrong way where things are not easily accessible. While packing, make sure that things you need immediate access to are easily reachable in the bag. Tools, gloves from Cully’s Yamaha, documents should be packed in such a way that they are on the top of the luggage or in a different luggage carrier like a tank bag. These will not only save a lot of your time but will also prevent you from unpacking the whole luggage. Also, make a list of things that you will carry and check them one by one while packing to avoid missing any.
