Awesome Things Everyone Does As Soon As Spring Comes

By  |

Spring marks the end of winter and lets us know that summer is on the way. It’s a time when the days start to get longer and the temperatures warmer. You notice flowers are blooming and people are starting to get out and about a bit more. It’s liberating as we start to do this, without the need for a heavy coat, scarf, gloves and wellies. If we’re lucky, there are the odd days that are warm enough for us to socialize outside, and dare we say it, possibly dine al fresco, giving us a taste of the summer to come. With this in mind, here are some awesome things people do when spring has arrived.

Spring Cleaning

Many of us decide to go through our homes and give it a good spring-clean. This is often a deep-routed activity that has origins in different cultures. For instance, Catholic churches would traditionally clean their altars and everything associated with it before Easter on Maundy Thursday. Spring-cleaning has also been associated with the Persian new year, which falls on the first day of spring.

It’s when you deep clean your home, cleaning it from top to bottom and doing things that fall outside your usual cleaning routine. Dusting your ceilings, wiping down walls, washing external doors, sorting out your kitchen cupboards and getting rid of old make-up, are just a few tasks to undertake. Warm soapy water will often work wonders on external doors

Lighter curtains, or black out-blinds, often replace heavyset curtains and lighter duvets will replace those with a heavier tog.

It can often seem overwhelming to think about cleaning your home like this, but if you plan how you’re going to tackle each room, or task, you’ll be able to break it down into manageable chunks. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, as long as you keep moving with your spring-cleaning. Get others involved, so you’re not doing this by yourself and if you’re short of time. With these spring cleaning tips, you’ll be off to a good start! Furthermore, it’s worth using eco cleaners if you can, as they won’t pollute. However, if you’re using cleaners with chemical components, always remember to follow the instructions, keep them out of the reach of children, wear gloves and keep your home well ventilated.

Gardening

With the longer, brighter days comes the opportunity to tidy up your garden. Even though bulbs should be planted before spring, there’s nothing stopping you from ridding your flower beds from dirt and debris, like old leaves and twigs that may have fallen from trees. It’s also a great time to start mowing your lawn and getting it ready for the warmer months ahead, as part of your spring gardening routine.

Additionally, inspecting your garden furniture for any wear and tear is good to do because there’s no point in cleaning them if they’re damaged or looking like they’re on their last legs. Usually, around this time, there are plenty of promotions and special offers for garden furniture and gardening equipment, so if anything needs to be replaced, it’s worth doing a bit of research and seeing what’s out there. You never know, you may be lucky enough to use them if spring decides to be particularly kind and grant us a few lovely warm days.

Another bonus is being able to dry out your laundry outside. Nothing beats the fresh smell of freshly dried laundry that’s been allowed to dry outside. Don’t forget to give your dry clothes a good shake before you start folding it to rid it of insects or bugs that may have decided to rest on them.

Seasonal Clothing

Gone are the wellies, scarves, gloves, heavy winter coats and umbrellas and in comes the sandals, jackets, summer hats and sunglasses! There’s no need for jumpers or joggers, so why have them hanging in your wardrobe? If you’re short on clothing storage, it’s a great idea to use vacuum storage bags to house your winter clothing until they’re needed once more. Many people opt to do this because there’s no point having clothes you won’t be using for months taking space for clothes you’ll be using for as long as the sun is shining and the weather is warmer.

At the same time, you might as well sort through your spring clothing to decide what you want to keep and what could be donated to charity or binned, if they’re ruined. This way, you will free up space to get clothing that’s in trend, save room and also recycle what you don’t need. As you get out your summer clothes, you can do the same thing.

Getting Ready for Summer

Many of us also start to amp up or even start our fitness regime, so we look good as we’re shedding our extra layers of winter clothing. Some of us also begin eating healthier or going on detoxes to clean out our bodies. Exercise and healthy eating are good for us to do, regardless of the season, however, it’s something that often seriously starts when spring arrives.

Going for a walk after your evening meal is a good way to unwind and end your day, free of social media and other distractions. If you’re able to do this with members of your household, it’ll become an enjoyable part of your daily routine. Starting off with stretches as soon as you get out of bed in the morning is a great way to wake your body up, and repeating this before you go to sleep is a good way to get out the stresses and strains of the day.

Spring also allows us to do more activities outside, without having to worry about getting wet or being too cold. Cycling and jogging are great alternatives to walking if that’s not something you like to do. And that’s the key: finding an enjoyable activity means you’re more likely to stick at it, and spring is the ideal time to try new outdoor activities.

Spring is undoubtedly a lovely season for nature as well as for us because it marks the end of winter. It gives us inspiration to do things, as our days are brighter and less gloomy. It can be the pick-me-up we need to do things we wouldn’t normally do in the winter, and that’s great. Most of us see the coming of spring as a good thing for these very reasons. Perhaps this is why we tend to do similar things to mark its arrival. So whatever you usually do when spring is here, we hope you enjoy it.
