Top 5 Best Child Rearing Practices for Healthy, Stable Kids

By  |

Being a parent is one of the world’s greatest joys, but also one of the most difficult jobs you could ever have.

Nothing can amount to watching a person grow from a baby to a young adult, knowing that the decisions you make can monumentally affect them.

You might fail in your decisions sometimes, but take heart because you are not the first nor the last to do it. But there are ways you can become better at it.

Here are five important child rearing practices you can implement in your parenting to make your parenting more effective.

  1. Make Time for Your Children

Making time for your children is the most important thing you could ever do for your child. Life can indeed get in the way of that; mostly your job taking the majority of your time.

There is nothing more important. If you’re there for their extracurriculars, their ceremonies, even those little moments where you might not feel like it’s important, those are the moments that all of you will remember for life.

  1. Be Consistent in Your Discipline

As a child, everyone hated being reprimanded or punished but as an adult, we now understand why our parents disciplined us, even if we may not agree to what severity.

Discipline is important when rearing a child, and you must be steadfast in your decisions. It’s okay to indulge in your child’s wants sometimes, but do not bend to whatever they want all the time.

Also, be authoritative and not authoritarian in your parenting; be reasonable and explain why certain decisions have been made and they will respect your decisions.

  1. Teach Them Good Hygiene

Children have a propensity to be okay with rolling in their dirt and filth. It is up to you to teach your child that it isn’t okay to do that, nor is it socially acceptable.

Being hygienic isn’t just for you but also those around you. You should be able to teach them how to deal with things like cleaning their ears and nose or even how to deal with children’s tooth cavity problems.

  1. Be Willing to Adapt as a Parent

Making decisions for your child is important, but it’s also important to be willing to adapt your parenting style. Even as adults we are always learning, and you should be able to cater to the style that best suits your child.

This isn’t just for your child but for you also.

  1. Be A Great Role Model

Ultimately, you don’t want to be a parent who says, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Be a parent who leads by example. Sure, you will mess up sometimes because you are human.

Make sure that in your mistakes that your child sees that you’re willing to own up to them. This will build integrity in them and yourself.
