Full Spectrum CBD vs CBD Isolate: What’s The Difference?

By  |

CBD is used for a variety of different reasons and conditions, but when you’re choosing a CBD product, should you choose full-spectrum or CBD isolate? In this blog, we’ll go through the differences between the two and what to consider when making a purchase.

There are three primary forms of CBD – CBD isolate, which is the pure form, and full-spectrum, which is an extract containing other compounds found in the cannabis plant. The third type of CBD is broad-spectrum, which is similar to full-spectrum, in that it contains other compounds.

How do CBD Isolate and Full-Spectrum Compare?

Both CBD Isolate and full-spectrum CBD are produced from extracts of the cannabis plant, but it’s important to note that there are distinct differences between the two. Full-spectrum CBD contains small quantities of other cannabinoids, such as THC, flavonoids and terpenes, which are beneficial to the scent and flavor of the CBD. CBD isolate, however, is refined even further to produce a product that is purely CBD.

The Benefits of CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is set apart from other types of CBD because of the wider therapeutic value it provides. This type of CBD has been stripped of every other active ingredient and cannabinoids, resulting in the purest form of the CBD molecule. It’s believed to be particularly beneficial for its calming properties, working with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system to restore balance in the body. There’s no THC with this form of CBD, and there are no psychoactive effects, so it’s ideal if you want the restorative effects without consuming THC.

The Benefits of Full-Spectrum CBD

Studies into taking CBD and THC together, combined with terpenes, suggest that there may be additional benefits in doing so. Research has found that this mix can help with anxiety, pain, inflammation and fungal infections. Likewise, other studies have found that certain terpenes and flavonoids may provide neuroprotective effects. However, research is ongoing into the effects of CBD on the body.

Which Should I Choose?

If you want a flavorless and odorless product, CBD isolate is the best option. There are products which have flavoring added, but in its purest form, this type of CBD doesn’t have any taste and it’s ideal for adding to drinks. If you want to avoid THC completely or want to take a larger dose of CBD each day, isolate is the preferred option.

Full-spectrum CBD products might be more likely to show up on a drug test, as they can contain trace amounts of THC. It has an earthy flavor profile and goes through less refining than CBD isolate.

As with any new product, be sure to do your research and only use reputable brands which are backed by scientific research and thorough testing. If you’re taking medication or you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, be sure to consult with your GP before taking any CBD products to ensure they’re safe.
