How to remodel your luxury bathroom

By  |

There’s no escaping the fact that replacing your existing bathroom with your dream bathing space will be a big job, and one that’ll take thoughtful planning. But prepare to reap the rewards when your masterpiece is complete.

How to start

Make sure you book professionals you can trust. The best ones are likely to be busy well in advance, so make this the first job. As well as making your bathroom look as good as you’d imagined, they’ll sort out the ugly details such as where the electrical wiring and plumbing pipes are located. You can then discuss plans with them so you know what the practical implications are.

Layout

Before considering the likes of colour and style, draw up a scaled plan of your bathroom and consider how much space you have to play with. You can rearrange everything until you have a layout that works for you. If the most important thing is, say, to have the bath next to the window, then start with that and work everything else around it.

Design

You have the layout sorted, now it’s time to use your space to the max. Maybe you’d like a relaxing space with greenery and mood lighting as you might get in a spa. You might want to choose a marble bathroom for a really upmarket look. Or perhaps you have space for a double sink or even a double shower, as you might see in a five-star hotel.

Color

Picking the right colour will improve the entire feel of your bathroom, so don’t take this decision lightly. The shade of your bathroom paint can’t clash with the colour of your bath or any tiles you use, so make sure everything works well together.

Lighting

Opt for two levels of lighting. The brightest should be used when you most want to appreciate your lovely design. The dimmer option is for those middle-of-the-night visits when you don’t want to wake up too much, and when your family doesn’t wish to be disturbed.

Storage

Be realistic with the space you have available. You don’t want everything to be too crammed in, and you need to allow space for storage, otherwise where will your towels and toiletries be kept? If space isn’t of the essence, then you might even want to go for the elegant fitted-wardrobe look.

Re-shaping your bathroom might be quite a chore, but get it right, and every time you enter, the room will be an absolute delight, with everything just as you want it for a soothing soak. It’ll be worth investing in both the time and the money.
