How you’re sabotaging your health and fitness

We all want to be fit and healthy, but in the modern world, it is easier said than done. You might think that you’re doing the right things but then you realize that you’re not seeing the progress you expected. 

It is common for people to sabotage the good work they’re doing and then lose motivation, which can leave you falling into more bad habits. 

You don’t look at your entire lifestyle

So you get up early every day and hit the gym, or go running but you’re still not feeling or looking your best. So what’s going on? Fitness is important but it is only a small part of the picture. 

If you’re still eating poorly, not getting enough sleep, drinking a lot of alcohol or smoking, then you need to address this too. Swap from regular cigarettes to vapes like Ecigoz if you need to and concentrate on getting enough sleep and eating better. 

You’re inconsistent 

Being consistent is the key to getting and staying healthy. It’s only through repetition and forming good habits that you will see results. Social media has us programmed to expect instant results and feel like we’ve failed if we don’t get them. 

Pushing yourself too hard

Going from an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle to a super healthy diet and daily visits to the gym isn’t sustainable for very long. This all or nothing approach can leave us feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and most likely injured. 

Rewarding yourself with food

How often have you had a great workout and felt amazing and then rewarded yourself with a treat, or two? Maybe you think that a good workout means that you can eat what you like for the rest of the day. The truth is, you’d have to exercise for hours and hours a day just to burn off the extra calories. You’d have to run for 40 minutes on a treadmill just to burn off an extra doughnut. 

You taking the wrong advice

The internet is filled with scams and people selling miracle weight loss cures. The trust is, there’s no substitute for a good diet and exercise. Many of these so-called quick fixes don’t work and the rest are downright dangerous. Don’t look for advice from untrained influencers online, most of whom are being paid to sell this kind of lifestyle. Instead, look for actual trained professionals who can advise on food and training programmes. 

Whenever you’re tempted by something you’ve seen, be sure to research it thoroughly first before you commit. Often, if it looks like it’s too good to be true, then this is usually the case. 

Final thoughts

Your health is the most important thing you have, so committing to living a healthy lifestyle is a great thing. But there are many ways in which we sabotage our own health, whether intentionally or unintentionally. The first step is realising what the issue is and taking steps to address it so that you can make real progress and achieve that healthy lifestyle you want.
