Tips for Starting an Online Fitness Coaching Business

By  |

Starting an online fitness coaching business isn’t as hard as you might think. There are many ways to go about it – you could start with a few clients, work on building your social media presence, or offer free sessions to build up your portfolio. But before you can get started, there are some things you should know – like the tools you’ll need and what kind of certification is necessary for your state.

You Need To Be A Certified Trainer

The first thing you need to do is make sure to get a certification as a personal trainer. You can always learn the ins and outs of starting an online coaching business after you have already started your career as a personal trainer, but it’s way easier to start from the beginning with at least some training under your belt! To become an online personal trainer, you need to become certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the American Council on Exercise (ACE), or one of the other reputable fitness certifying organizations out there. This way, you’ll have more credibility and reach more clients.

You Need The Right Tools

To run a successful online coaching business, you need to have your tools in place from day one. Here’s what you’ll need as an online personal trainer:

  • A website with an online scheduling system.
  • A Facebook page for your business, and some sort of social media campaign going on for it so you can be found.
  • An email newsletter signup form, so you can keep people updated regularly and reach them on their email.
  • A way to accept online payments, like PayPal or Stripe.

You Need To Understand The Marketplace

One of the most helpful things you can do when starting an online coaching business is to understand your market. Understanding your market means understanding who will be hiring you, what they are looking for in a trainer, and what tools and services they need to succeed. This is a great way to differentiate yourself since you can help your clients achieve their goals better than anyone else!

For example, if you are coaching people with diabetes, you will need to know how stress affects the disease and how certain types of food cause blood sugar spikes. You’ll also want to make sure that you can offer advice on exercise based on an individual’s health conditions since someone with arthritis might not be able to do some exercises that are recommended for diabetics.

You Can Be Successful If You Love What You Do

Even though there are thousands of online personal trainers out there who compete for attention from potential customers, don’t get discouraged. As long as you enjoy what you’re doing, it’s all worth it in the end. Even if you are successful, there will be slow days here and there where clients cancel appointments or request help. Don’t get worked up about what other people are doing – just focus on your work ethic and confidence in yourself!

You Are Uniquely Qualified

It helps to remember that you have something no one else has – YOU! You have a unique experience that no one else does, so don’t compare yourself to other online trainers out there. Draw your clientele by being friendly, approachable, and positive. Then take the time to listen to what they need from you since this is how you can offer them something nobody else can – support tailored specifically to their needs.

Learn To Establish Relationships With Your Clients

While it might seem like you can reach a lot of people by starting an online coaching business, your clients will only be successful if they feel comfortable reaching out to you and establishing relationships. Don’t reach out too much and become annoying – instead, try to establish solid relationships with your clients and make yourself available for anything they need from you. You should also get creative when it comes to marketing your services on social media since this is one of the best ways for potential customers to find you! And remember – nobody has access to anyone else’s inbox but their own (and maybe their email service provider). So don’t worry about other trainers stealing all your hard work by reaching out through email.
