Why It’s Healthy To Have Fun

By  |

Having fun is something that children do all the time without even thinking about it. Their entire lives revolve around enjoying themselves and being happy, moving from one thing that makes them feel good to the next. At some point, as we grow older and take on more responsibilities, that fun element of life can disappear. However, this is not a good thing – and it’s important to bring fun back into our lives as much as possible. Here are the reasons why.

Weight Loss

You may not equate having fun with losing weight, but it is actually an important part of why fun must be had whenever possible. Adults tend to eat for emotional reasons, especially if they feel unhappy. This can lead to overeating or eating too much of the wrong kinds of food. If we’re happier because we’re having more fun, we’ll eat less – and certainly less bad food – and find it much easier to stick to a healthy, well-balanced diet. Of course, it’s important to treat ourselves every now and then (that’s part of having fun), but save the chocolate and candies for a special occasion like Christmas, birthdays, or at a party. You’ll feel better for it and be healthier too.

You’ll Discover Yourself

When you open yourself up to the idea of having more fun, you will find out a lot more about yourself than you ever knew before. You’ll get a better understanding of what you enjoy (and what you don’t) and be able to focus on these areas more. Plus, you will have the opportunity to re-discover yourself too. Remember what you enjoyed as a child and what always made you happy. Can you do that or something similar as an adult? If you enjoyed it then, you will probably enjoy it now.

Reconnect With Friends

It’s good to have fun on your own, but if you can have fun with friends, it’s even better. Plus, if you’re enjoying hobbies and activities that you did as a child, or before you started work and had to take on all the responsibilities of adulthood, you might actually be able to reconnect with friends that you knew the last time you rode picked out dirt bike clothing, went for a run, picked up a paintbrush, or anything else that made (and will make) you smile. Alternatively, you might make new friends through these activities. Enjoying yourself with others is an essential part of life and learning, and if you can do it, you should always take the opportunity.

Something To Look Forward To

Sometimes life can get somewhat stuck in a bit of a rut, doing the same things every day and every week. If you have a hobby or something fun to do during that week and you are looking forward to it, it will brighten up every part of your life and give you more of a focus. Always make sure there is something to look forward to, even if you don’t take up a new hobby. A trip to the theater, a walk in the countryside, visiting family and friends. It can be anything as long as you enjoy it and have fun doing it.
