Improving Your Bathroom: Steps to Take

By  |

It’s the start of a new year and many people have decided to settle on home improvements for their new year’s resolution. This is a good place to start! Over the past couple of years, many of us have spent a whole lot of time in our homes. We’ve had time to notice areas that need repairs, improvement and a general overhaul. Doing this will also make our homes more comfortable and enjoyable spaces to spend time, as well as improving our overall property value. This is a bonus, considering our homes tend to be the most expensive assets we invest in during our lives. Of course, the majority of people tend to focus on the lounge, bedrooms or the kitchen when it comes to home improvements. But when was the last time you took a look at your bathroom and gave it a little TLC? Bathrooms are actually extremely important spaces in any home. Here are some steps you can take to give your bathroom the overhaul it needs!

Create a Budget

Start out by creating a budget for your bathroom redecoration or renovations. This will help you to determine what kind of projects you can afford to work on and what will be realistic and affordable. Consider all elements of the process. This could range from plumbers fees to bathroom paint, bathroom stall door hinges, new bathtubs and more. Whatever you need, make sure that it’s affordable. You don’t want to slip into debt as a result of this.

Consider Different Work That Can Improve the Space

There are countless areas you can focus on that will improve your bathroom space. Some popular options tend to include:

  • New Paint – a fresh lick of paint can make all the difference to your bathroom without being a high cost change. Popular colours include blues and greens or whites and greys.

  • New Tiles – tiles can get damaged, fade or otherwise pose problems over time. Having new tiles put in place can really spruce the space up.

  • New Shower or Bathtub – showers and bathtubs undergo a lot of wear and tear and are subject to mould, rust and other issues. Investing in a replacement can give your bathroom a real new feel.

En Suites

Do you find yourself fighting for the bathroom at any point? Many families or couples living with one bathroom end up butting heads over who gets to use the bathroom first, who showers first and other times when multiple people need to use the space at once. This issue can be resolved with the creation of an en suite. This is a smaller bathroom that can be attached to any room in your home. Start out by getting planning permission. This will ensure that you can have the work carried out. Then consult an architect and relevant workpeople to determine whether the addition is feasible. If it is, you can get the work started!

These are just a few suggestions that can really make all the difference when it comes to making the bathrooms in your home the best they can be. Take some time and make some investments to really reap the benefits!
