Essential Things To Bring On Your Next Hiking Trip

By  |

Setting off into the great outdoors with your friends and loved ones is the perfect way to unwind after a stressful week at work. The outside world can bring us a sense of peace and help us regather our thoughts or bond with those we’re close to. Nature is well documented as being a great contributor to positive mental health, and going for a long hike or camping trip can be a great idea. To help you on your journey, here’s a list of essentials that you should remember to bring with you.

Rucksack
As you’re likely going to be carrying a lot of supplies with you on your trip, depending on how long you’re planning to be out and about, choosing a good quality rucksack is essential for your hike. It’s highly recommended to have one that is well-fitted, too, as a rucksack that isn’t fitted to you can cause you to become unbalanced and even add strain to certain parts of your body such as your shoulders and back. It’s worth getting a rucksack that has a belt attachment, too, adding an extra anchor point to your body to keep it secure and comfortable.

Extra Layers
During your hike, it’s important to consider your clothing. Understandably, you’ll want warm, waterproof clothes during a hike in the winter months, but people often forget that the summers can get chilly too. You don’t have to wear all of your layers at once, so it’s a great idea to bring some extras with you just in case you need them. Men’s Superdry Jackets are a great option for adding a layer of warmth as well as some extra protection from the rain and wind. Having something at hand like this in the event of the weather turning will feel like a true blessing.

Snacks And Drinks
When you’re exerting energy, even just when walking along hiking trails, your energy levels will be diminished. To counteract this, you’ll want to bring some food and drink with you to ensure you’ll be able to refuel along the way. You’ll want some high energy snacks such as trail mix, granola bars, or bananas which are filled with slow-release carbohydrates that will provide you with energy on the go. As well as this, you’ll want to have a good lunch to bring along too. This should be a high-protein lunch with complex carbohydrates packed in an airtight container. As well as food, you’ll want to make sure you bring plenty of water with you to remain hydrated. The last thing you want is to run out of water halfway through your hike, especially in the heat.

Smart Watch And GPS
One of the biggest concerns for those who go out hiking is getting lost or injured. When you venture out into the wilderness, especially somewhere you’re not familiar with, it’s imperative that you have some form of GPS device with you. You can get many different hiking apps for your phone that can help you to keep safe during your hike. Don’t forget to tell someone else where you’re going too, and perhaps give them an idea of your route in case they must try to find you. It’s also important to be able to keep track of the time too so that you don’t get caught out by nightfall, as it’ll be much more difficult navigating in the dark.
