How To Get Your Home Ready For Sale Quickly

By  |

So you’ve made the decision to move and you need to do it quickly. That means there’s only one thought in your mind – “sell my home fast”! Here are some tips on making that happen.

Choose your realtor with care

If you’re looking to sell your home quickly, then you’ll probably benefit hugely from using an experienced realtor. Ideally, you want one that can arrange an instant cash offer as well as sell property the traditional way.

A high-quality realtor will be able to talk you through both options so you can decide what’s right for you. If you do choose to sell your home the traditional way, they’ll guide you in setting a suitable price. If you want to move quickly, this will probably be on the competitive side. At the same time, they’ll still aim to get the maximum possible for you.

Just as importantly, a good realtor will qualify interested parties carefully. They make sure that your home is only seen by people who are able and willing to buy. Once a sale is agreed upon, the realtor will guide it to completion.

Clear out your home

If you’re lucky enough to have plenty of storage space, make sure that everything is put away properly in it when out of use. Then think about whether or not you still have space to hide packing supplies and packed boxes during home viewings. If not, make it a priority to organize this.

If you don’t have enough storage to put everything away tidily, then just book storage and move your stuff into it as quickly as you can. As long as you can easily access your storage unit, you’ll still be able to go through your stuff before you move.

In either case, make sure you remove anything that’s clearly personal to you. This is particularly important if it could be at all controversial (think politics, sports, and religion). Even items that aren’t controversial but are deeply personal can make some buyers uncomfortable. For example, not everyone wants to see photos of your children.

If you like to keep flowers or flowering plants in your home, then it’s advisable to move them before prospective buyers come around. They may look beautiful but they can also trigger allergies.

Make your home look (and smell) its best

If you’re in a hurry to move, then you’re unlikely to have time to make any serious updates to your home. Even if you did, they might not add enough value to justify the price. The good news is that cleaning and painting can do a lot to make your home appealing to buyers. If you’re looking for a cleaning service, read more here. If you’re lucky enough to have a yard make sure it’s in good order too.

To get the most value from your home clean it literally outside and inside from top to bottom. In particular, make sure all textiles are cleaned. Carpets, rugs, and curtains/drapes often come up beautifully after a steam clean. Upholstery can generally be steam cleaned but sometimes it needs specialist cleaning.

The reason why it’s so important to clean your textiles is that this is often where smells linger. You may have stopped noticing them but prospective buyers probably will, even if only subconsciously.
