4 Way to Increase Your Influence as an Entrepreneur

By  |

As an entrepreneur, you need to have a lot of good ideas and the drive to make them happen, but something else you also need is influence.

In this age of social media, what you say matters, and the more influential you can become in your chosen niche, the more likely you are to succeed at everything you do.

With that in mind, let’s look at some effective ways you can increase your influence as an entrepreneur

  1. Be visible

Many people think that, in order to be influential you need to be constantly innovating; coming up with new ideas and concepts and sharing them with the world. That is true, but you know what? Often just showing up and getting your name and face out there can work wonders too.

So, if you’re serious about increasing your influence, the first thing you need to do is increase your visibility. Make sure that you are all over social media, spend time joining forums that are used by your niche, go to those conferences and trade events and just make sure that people know what you are.

  1. Be an expert

Something else that will help you to gain more influence as an entrepreneur is being an expert in your chosen field. The more people who see you as an authority on your chosen subject of business, the more they will start to trust you, look up to you and ultimately follow you throughout your career.

Great, but how do you become an expert? Start by writing blog posts and articles on your own website and as guest posts on other influential sites in your niche. Then, use podcast booking services to get yourself booked as a guest on various podcasts in your niche. Pursue TV interviews, write and sell ebooks – basically do anything you can, then show people you know your stuff and get your name out there. The rest will follow.

  1. Network

Making connections with other influential entrepreneurs, whether in your own niche, related niches, or even completely different niches altogether will give you lots of influence because people tend to spend time with people who are like them. So, if you’re hanging out with a successful tech entrepreneur, people will automatically assign you a greater amount of influence by association, even if you are just starting out.

Of course, networking does not mean that you should exploit people, not only is it not a great way to be a human, but they will soon realize this is what you are doing and drop you from their sphere of influence. You should aim to make real and lasting connections with other influential people who you genuinely like, and you should aim to give back as much as you take overall.

  1. Philanthropy

Giving back, even in a small way is an excellent way to increase your influence. People love individuals who work hard and give back and there is no better PR than doing a good deed for a good cause whether you are an entrepreneur or not.

Now get out there and make it happen!
