Be The Best Host; Tips For Hosting The Perfect Event In Your Home

By  |

Hosting an event in your home can be a bit stressful if you let it. You worry that your guests will not enjoy themselves, that something might go wrong or your food will be a flop. If you allowed yourself to worry about all of the ifs, buts, and maybes you might even talk yourself out of throwing the event in the first place. However, hosting an event does not have to be stressful, it can be enjoyable for your guests and importantly for you. So if you have an up-and-coming event that is troubling you, read on, to uncover some of the best tips for being the best host.

Food and drink

One of the most important aspects when it comes to any event is generally the food and beverages on offer. It is usually the yardstick in which comparisons are made, so you want to try and get it right.

Firstly the most important consideration when it comes to food and drink is to consider any dietary requirements. Of course, you want to ensure that you have catered for everyone and that nobody has to go without on account of their dietary requirements. Before your event, reach out and confirm whether anybody attending has foods they cannot eat. Once you know if there are food groups or items to stay away from, try to identify dishes that you know your guests will love. After all, if you invite people to your home chances are they are your friends and you should have some idea of the types of foods they know and love.

The same applies to the drinks offered. Are your guests wine connoisseurs? Or would they be impressed with a homemade cocktail? Don’t forget to be mindful of offering alcohol-free choices as not everyone may wish to drink. Offering up a glass of water is unlikely to cut it.

Entertainment

What is the purpose of your get-together? Is it a dinner party? Social gathering? Sports event? If there is a clear and identifiable purpose you can plan accordingly. If you are hosting the final of the latest baseball league fixtures then be sure that you have the facilities to show it. Find the best sports streaming sites and make sure that you have ample seating and viewing options for all of your guests. If it is a formal dinner party, do you have mood music? Appropriate seating? Perhaps prepare a playlist and plan the seating arrangements in advance. What about children? Will they be attending? If so, do you have child-friendly spaces, food, and activities to accommodate them? All of these things will go a long way to ensuring your guests have the best time in your home.

Be relaxed

It might be easier said than done when the onus is on you to host an event but whether you are feeling relaxed or not try to give the impression that you are calm and relaxed. If you are worked up and tense then this vibe will translate to your guests and leave them feeling on edge and uncomfortable. Similarly, if you are relaxed, warm, and welcoming it will instantly put them at ease and allow them to relax into the situation.

Make time for your guests

This can be difficult when you are the host as you will have a hundred things to be doing. You might be preparing food, serving drinks, setting up games, or wanting to tidy up however this mustn’t be done at the expense of your guests. Once your guests arrive try to avoid staring at your phone or rushing around to get everything done. Ensure that you make time for your attendees and make the effort to talk to them and in turn make them feel welcome in your home.

Don’t overlook the temperature

Along with good conversation and great food offerings, if you want your guests to feel comfortable in your home then you don’t want them to be too hot or too cold. You don’t want to see them layering up with their coat to fend off the cold or desperately fanning themselves with napkins to cool down. If you have to, turn on the heating or cooling systems to create a pleasant atmosphere for your guests.

Have fun

If you want your guests to have fun in your home then there is no better way to do it than lead by example. Show them that they can relax and treat your house as they would their own. Laugh and enjoy being in each other’s company.
