Chimu is located in the heart of Brooklyn in the Williamsburg section of the city. This peruvian restaurant is one of a kind. It is small yet filled with art and skill. NY Mag says, “The restaurant specializes in the cuisine of the Peruvian coast, where the Chimu people once reigned, so it’s no surprise that seafood is prominent. The masterpiece is the mixed-seafood ceviche, a gigantic platter of raw mussels, crab, shrimp, and delectable white fish, seasoned with lime and cilantro. Hearty seafood stews join juicy Pollo a la Brasa among the entrées. Chimu also doubles as a steakhouse, with skirt steaks and a savory shell steak seared with garlic and olive oil.”
After owning a vitamin and body supplement shop, the owners of Chimu dove into the food and beverage business. The difference in business genre did not hinder the success of their restaurants. They have owned an Italian restaurant as well as another peruvian restaurant in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Their Italian restaurant was actually on an episode of the Sopranos.
Bobby Flay has been to Chimu with his Boy Meets Grill television segment. “With some advice from Aarón Sánchez, Bobby heads to Chimu for scrumptious Peruvian food. Chimu’s ceviche remains a must-try for newcomers, but if you’re feeling strong (or want to feel stronger) try the Pescado a lo Macho, which is believed to contain invigorating properties.”

Next time you are in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn for lunch, stop by 482 Union Avenue for the best Peruvian food around. The Pollo Saltado, which is sauteed sliced chicken, red onions, tomatoes, ginger, soy sauce and Italian parsley over steak cut potatoes is the perfect light lunch! If you are the healthy vegan, fitness type of person, try the Palta Rellena, which is a half avocado stuffed with shrimp and mixed vegetables. Another winner is the Paella. It is done in their own peruvian style with crab stack and is getting rave revues.
