They say you should never judge a book by its cover, and that’s good advice. But that doesn’t stop people from doing that exact thing every single day. Like it or not, the way that you present yourself is always going to have a major impact on the way that you’re perceived by other people. This is true in your professional life, your social life, not to mention your love life. If you want to get ahead, then you’ve got to look the part, that’s just a fact of life. Fortunately being able to present yourself in a way that commends the right amount of respect isn’t as hard as many people might expect. In fact, there are a few simple things that you can do to make sure that you’re always going to make the best impressions. Here are a few simple tips to help you dress for success.
Learn what fits
One of the biggest problems that many men have is that they simply don’t understand how their clothes are supposed to fit. They end up with items that are either far too big or far too small without ever really knowing what they should look for. The most egregious version of this is almost always with a man’s suit. A well-fitting suit can make a man look like he’s in complete control of his life, as though he knows exactly what he’s doing. However, a badly fitting suit can make any man look like a little boy trying on his dad’s clothes. Nothing compares to a perfectly tailored suit but not everyone can afford that kind of luxury. Just make sure that the suit is fitting comfortable and not stretch or bunching anywhere; that the pads of the shoulders aren’t sitting out from your body; and that there is always half an inch of your shirt sleeve showing at all times. These three things will help you make sure that your suit fits.
To beard, or not to beard
That is the question! There’s a lot of debate about whether men look good with beards or not but in reality it just comes down to the individual. Not every man can pull off the rugged look as well as others. Some simply look better when they’re clean shaven. The key is, to be honest with yourself. Look in the mirror and ask “does this actually look good?” Chances are if not then you’ll know pretty quickly. If that’s the case, then the best thing you can do is invest in a high-quality razor embrace the clean shaven look. Hey, if it’s good enough for Bond.
Confidence
It doesn’t matter how stylish you are, if you’re not carrying yourself with confidence, it’s not going to make any difference at all. If you spend all of your time hunched over, apologizing for your very presence, then even the best clothes in the world aren’t going to help you. And if you’re confident enough, you could wear St Patrick’s day shirts to a black-tie event and get away with it. Remember to hold yourself like a man who knows what he’s doing, stand up straight, look people in the eye and remember that nothing is more attractive and engaging than pure confidence.
A lot of people tend to try and put fashion to one side as if it’s not really that important. But the truth is that we live in a visual world and if you want people to take you seriously, you’ve got to look the part.
