This year marks the fifth annual Big Daddy Youth Football Camp, and Rich “Big Daddy” Salgado’s vision for the program remains stronger than ever.
The camp, which will be held at New Hyde Park Memorial High School from June 24-26. The venue has personal significance for Salgado, as he attended the Long Island school where he developed his passion for football.
Geared toward campers in grades one through eight, the non-contact program is designed to help attendees develop and sharpen their skills on offense, defense, and special teams, while instilling good sportsmanship ideals as well.
Coaching duties this year are headed by Jim Salgado (Rich’s brother), Defensive Assistant Coach of the Buffalo Bills. Assisting him is an impressive lineup of NFL players and coaches including Mohamed Sunu (Falcons WR), Devin McCourty (Patriots Safety), Landon Collins (Redskins Safety), Erik Coleman (former Safety for the Jets, Falcons and Lions), Marvin Washington (former DE for the Jets, Broncos and 49ers), Brian Baldinger (12- year NFL veteran, NFL Network analyst and host of Baldy’s Breakdowns… and Massapequa native), and Eric Mangini (NFL coach for several teams), among others.
Media personalities participating in the camp include NFL Network and ESPN football analyst, Adam Schefter and Brian Kilmeade of Fox and Friends, both of whom (like Rich Salgado himself) are native sons of Long Island.
“There are a couple of important take aways that I want campers to learn from the camp,” Salgado explains. “They should not only learn techniques on hot to play the game better and how to play in a safe and fun manner, they should also learn important lessons on how to be a better person as well.”
