Most people know him as Kylie Jenner’s “Baby Daddy,” but Travis Scott is so much more than that. Over the years, Scott has managed to carve out a name for himself in the industry. After all, he is one of the most talented rappers of our time – making cheap Travis Scott tickets a hot commodity.
So, from humble beginnings to his rise to stardom, here are 10 facts you may not know about one of Houston’s greatest rappers, Travis Scott.
What’s in a name?
Believe it or not, Travis Scott is not his real name. Instead, his parents named him Jacques Webster. His stage name is inspired by his favorite uncle, whose name is Travis. As a child, he looked up to him, his swag, and smart business decisions.
Born for music
Scott was interested in music from a young age. He was only three years old when he started playing the drums. After a while, he moved onto the piano, but he ended up quitting after two years. When asked why, Scott joked that it was the inability to impress the ladies that led him to quit. Later, he found that creating beats was the path to pursuing romance, as the electronic sound was “getting all the girls.”
College dropout
Scott attended classes at the University of Texas in San Antonio for two years before dropping out. Why? To pursue music full time, of course. He wanted to achieve his dreams, no matter what it took. In an interview, he said: “Every day in college was depressing. I wanted to be an artist. I wanted to be on an album. I wanted to be on stage rapping at MTV.” And with the way things worked out for him, clearly, dropping out was a great decision.
The Kardashi(f)ans
Before Scott and Kylie Jenner became a power couple, her sister, Kendall, was already a fan of his music. In 2015, Scott hosted a listening party for his debut album Rodeo, which Kendall attended. And even before that, in 2012, Scott was signed to GOOD Music – Kanye West’s record label. It seems that Scott was always meant to be linked to the extended Kardashian family, in some way or another.
The bigger the gesture, the better!
Scott’s a true believer in showing his love for someone in the grandest of ways. After just a few months of dating, Kylie Jenner and Scott got matching Butterfly tattoos – a butterfly being his apparent nickname for her. He even has a hit song called ‘Butterfly Effect’ – which may be a nod to her. Who knows? But if music and a tattoo aren’t big enough of a gesture for you, then Travis outdid himself for Kylie’s 20th birthday, when he hired an orchestra to come and perform for her. Now, if that isn’t a grand gesture, then we don’t know what is!
Did they or didn’t they?
Steamy dating rumors surfaced between Scott and superstar Rihanna in 2015 after the pair collaborated on ‘Woo,’ a track from Rihanna’s album ‘ANTI.’ Around that time, juicy photos of the two dancing and talking closely in a club appeared online, which further fuelled the rumors. But, as neither Scott nor Rihanna have confirmed or denied the rumors, we may never know what really went on between them.
Proud Texan
Did you know, Travis Scott is from The Lone Star State? He was born in Houston, Texas, on April 30, 1992, and lived in a middle-class suburb of Missouri City with his grandmother during his youth.
Kid Cudi
While it may not be a secret that Kid Cudi is Travis Scott’s favorite artist of all time, you may not know that Scott actually cried the first time he met Kid Cudi. Cudi Surprised Scott at the studio while he was working with A-Trak. He then took Scott for a ride and played some new tracks for him. To be honest, if Kid Cudi ever surprised us like that, we would cry too. In an interview, Scott said: “He’s the ultimate. He’s like one of the realest rappers alive. His music has an edge to it.”
It’s a rich man’s world
As of July 2019, Travis Scott’s net worth comes to $50 million thanks to his music career. As well as his successful solo rap career, Scott has focused on producing, songwriting, and of course, touring – which all contribute to his deep pockets. He’s done extremely well for himself, especially considering his parents cut him off financially after he dropped out of university!
He gives it 100 percent
By high school, Scott was completely dedicated to pursuing a music career full-time. In fact, he was so determined, he turned his room into a music studio, and gave up his bed to make room for all his equipment. When he was done recording, he would sleep in his chair.
