By  |

Makeup has been around for thousands of years. Take the Ancient Egyptians, for example, they accentuated their eyes with both eyeliner and eyeshadow.

Not only that, but they wore mascara made of water, honey, kohl, and crocodile dung.

Fortunately, things have changed a lot since then. If you want, you can even get lash extensions.

Did you recently get some? Looking for some tips on how to maintain and extend their lifespan? If so, you’re at the right place because that’s what we’ll be discussing below.

What Are Lash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are lashes that are applied on top of your natural lashes with semi-permanent glue. Similar to fake eyelashes, they can greatly enhance the shape of your eye.

There are also many popular lash extension styles that you can choose from.

5 Tips That Will Extend Their Lifespan

Lash extensions, in general, are high-maintenance. Here are some tips on how to maintain them.

  1. Keep Your Eyelashes Clean

The best way to maintain lash extensions is to keep them clean. This means washing them regularly with an oil-free cleanser.

For the best results, apply the cleanser onto a facial eye cleaner rush and wash gently in a downward motion. Rinse with clean water afterward.

Once they’re dry, gently brush them back into shape with a lash wand.

  1. Sleep On Your Back

Sleep on your back for the first couple of nights—that will allow the glue to dry and set properly. You can resume your normal sleeping position afterward.

With that said, it’s highly recommended that you continue sleeping on your back. That way, the lashes won’t snag and create friction with your pillow.

  1. Use An Eyelash Sealer

Consider using an eyelash sealer in the morning; it will lock your lashes in place so that they’ll last longer.

Simply apply a light coat over your extensions. Brush them a few times afterward with a dry lash wand and you’re good to go. Remember, a little goes a long way.

  1. Don’t Use Waterproof Mascara

Avoid using waterproof mascara with extensions. They’re virtually impossible to remove without ruining your lashes. Not to mention that oil-based removers can weaken the extensions and cause them to break.

If you must wear mascara, opt for something water-based instead.

  1. Comb Them Regularly

Comb your lashes regularly—that will help prevent crisscrosses and kinks. For example, you can use an eyelash comb or a clean mascara wand.

Just remember to be gentle when you’re doing it. Also, make sure to clean them regularly as they can breed bacteria and the last thing that you want is an eye infection.

Maintaining Your Eyelash Extensions

Lash extensions can be a great way to enhance your natural look. Just keep in mind that they do require maintenance if you want them to look their best.
