If you are planning a weekend getaway to London and want to indulge in some of its finest food, then Michelin restaurants are likely going to be your first port of call. But with the capital having so many restaurants on offer, it may be difficult to decide where to place your reservations. These four Michelin restaurants are, in our opinion, unmissable – read on to find out why.
Chez Bruce
This understated restaurant forgoes any pretentious interiors, with founder Bruce Poole eschewing media opportunities to focus on what really matters – the food. Seasonal produce and traditional cooking are at the heart of Chez Bruce’s French and Mediterranean-influenced menu. Everything from their homemade charcuterie to their bread-making are their ‘specialities’.
Chez Bruce’s doors first opened in 1995, with the intention of providing the highest quality food and drink, within a more informal, unpretentious setting. Located right next to Wandsworth Common tube stop, Chez Bruce is easily accessible by train or bus.
The Dining Room at the Goring
A favourite of both the Queen and Kate Middleton, The Dining Room is set inside a gorgeous Edwardian Hotel (The Goring), with food as exquisite as the chandelier-adorned décor. Executive Chef Richard Galli oversees the proudly British fare, the ingredients for which are sourced from across the British Isles. Among the royal-approved dishes, you may find seasonal delicacies such as Cornish wild Halibut, or Rhug estate lamb.
The Dining Room is good for more than a candlelit dinner, as their offerings extend to a breakfast menu and afternoon tea. Finish your meal off with an old favourite, or try something with a twist, at their cocktail bar.
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal
Some may describe Heston as a scientist as well as a chef, with his reputation for shocking yet delightful gastronomic ‘experiments’, from crab ice cream to a giant KitKat. ‘Dinner’ was born from Heston’s passion for historic gastronomy, from the savoury ice creams of the late 1800s to the dishes described in C.S. Lewis’ beloved tale, ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
Alongside chef Ashley Palmer-Watts, Heston birthed a menu that transforms these historical culinary delights into a thoroughly modern dining experience. This contemporary, innovative approach has earned the restaurant two Michelin stars to date, not to mention dozens of other awards.
Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsay’s reputation as a no-nonsense TV personality precedes him, from setting wayward restaurant owners on the right path in Kitchen Nightmares to putting the country’s finest chefs through their paces in Hell’s Kitchen. By dining at ‘Restaurant’ you can take a trip back in time to where it all began for the famous chef – this was Gordon’s first restaurant, which he established in 1998, at the age of 31.
His core aim, to combine an intimate setting (seating just 45 guests) with divine French cuisine, remains the restaurant’s key focus today. With bespoke interiors designed by Fabled Studio, along with exquisite food offerings such as smoked duck with rhubarb and lobster with black truffle, the Restaurant makes for a truly unforgettable dining experience in the heart of London. This delectable menu is accompanied by a bespoke wine list, curated from across the globe by Head Sommelier James Lloyd.
