Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the headliners of South by South Lawn: A White House Festivals of Ideas, Art and Action, where he will discuss climate change and show his documentary, Before The Flood. Sunday The White House announced via Twitter that Leonardo DiCaprio is set to meet with President Obama to discuss global climate change on October 3.
Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, climate scientist, will join the conversation.
This discussion is to be about “the importance of protecting the one planet we’ve got for future generations,” will be part of the inaugural South by South Lawn: A White House Festival of Ideas, Art, and Action.
Following the talk there will be a screening of DiCaprio’s climate documentary, Before the Flood.
DiCaprio has long been an activist for global climate change.
The film, directed by Fisher Stevens, chronicles DiCaprio’s international campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change as a U.N. Ambassador of Peace.
In his Academy Award acceptance speech he focused on the issue.
“Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating,” DiCaprio said.“We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people who will be most affected by this, for our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed.”
Aside from DiCaprio’s documentary, the cast of Stranger Things, The Lumineers, Dap Kings and more will make an appearance.
