Secret to healthy and beautiful lips – 6 effective tips
Almost every woman loves to dress well, wear makeup and paint her lips whether it is for going to a party, for work or for a casual day out with friends. Have you ever been in a situation where no matter how well you tried to dress up or wear make up, those chapped and cracked lips just stole the attention? Then you may be in for having struggles with unhealthy lips.
Soft and pink lips are desired by all but only a few take good care of their lips. Considering our hectic work lives and sedentary lifestyle, we are often left with little energy or time to give attention to ourselves. As it is important to work and earn money, it is equally important to take good care of yourself, including lips. Here are some tips that will help you be more aware about your lips and take better care :
No touching or licking your lips
Licking your lips may seem to work when they feel dry, but it is only for a few minutes that you will feel them moist. When you lick your lips with your saliva, you are exposing your skin to digestive enzymes that the saliva contains, which are harmful for the protective layer on the lips.
The skin on the lips is much thinner than the other parts of your body, and everytime you touch them or try to pick at them, they get affected.
Maintain a healthy diet
A healthy diet is the most underrated solution to problems but, it is the most important and effective one. As the old saying goes “You are what you eat”, we could not agree more.
A diet that is rich in vitamins (especially Vitamin E) and nutrients, is good for lips. Try to avoid foods that are too salty or crisp as these make the lips dry. One should also drink lots of water and keep the body hydrated.
Exfoliate regularly
Before you head to bed at night, apply some gentle lip balm. In the morning, remove any dead or dry skin using a toothbrush or damp cloth. This will stimulate blood circulation and keep your lips soft and pink.
Protect your lips from sun and toxins
Lips are more prone to sunburns as they do have melanin, a pigment that acts as a shield against the sun, therefore, it is important to take measures to protect the lips from sun.
Look for a lip product that has UV protection and apply it before stepping out. It will also protect your lips from pollution and dry air. Also, do not breathe with your mouth open, as the dry air can make your lips crack.
Know the ingredients of your lip products
It is very important to know the ingredients of the beauty products you are using. Look for hydrating lip balms which have shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E and jojoba, almond or coconut oils. Vaseline, which is a petroleum jelly, works well too.
Remember, price does not define the quality of the product. A high priced product is not necessarily good for you. Sometimes, cheap beauty products do wonders to your skin if they have the right ingredients.
Take off your makeup before bed
Your lips need to breathe too, so it is good to remove makeup from your face and lips before going to bed. Even if you are not wearing a lip colour, wipe it with cotton, and go to sleep with a mild lip balm on.
It is important to keep in mind that the skin on lips is very thin and therefore, needs extra care and attention. These simple tips are key to healthy, pink and beautiful lips.
