Maintaining your car is an important part of car ownership. When you buy your first car it is easy to forget the small things such as checking oil level and washing the windows but these are all important things for you to do. Today we are going to talk about some of the ways that you can maintain a healthy and happy car that will stay in your family for years and years.
Whether you use a steam car wash machine or head to the local car wash every time your exterior gets dirty, here are some of the most important things you should do today to maintain your car.
Clean the windshield
Just as you should clean your windows in the house often, you should also clean the windshield of your car. The windshield is your method to see outside the car and for your safety as well as the safety of everyone else, it is crucial to do this often. Clean your windshield with washer fluid or window cleaner to clean it.
Check tyre pressure
Every month or so it is important to check the tyre pressure of your car. When you are driving every single day it can be easy not to notice the slow deflating of the tyres over time and you may reach a point where the tyres are far too flat to grip the road. Check tyre pressure with a gauge and pump them up to the recommended level. Once you get back behind the wheel the difference you see will be immense.
Change oil every 5,000 miles
We all know how to check the oil in the car. All you need to do is take out the dip stick, wipe it, put it back in and then check the level. But did you realize that now and again you need fresh oil for a healthy car? Every 5,000 miles or once a year you should get the oil changed and freshened.
Wash your car regularly
You will likely have seen cars that have been left dirty for so long that messages and drawings have been added to the outside, and you never want to let your car reach this stage. Washing your car is not just about the aesthetic but also about the care of your paintwork. To prevent rusting and chipping you should wash your car ideally once a month.
Treat your car like your home
Do not treat your car like a bin! If you have takeaways, coffee cups, receipts and lots of other items in the car it will cause the car to smell and will attract bugs. Make sure to remove things from the car as you go and keep it clean for as long as you can.
Vacuum the inside
One thing you might not think about in terms of cleaning the car is dusting and vacuuming the interior. You should do this once a month or so to keep the car clean and ensure that you aren’t breathing in dust and debris while driving.
