Lockdown may seem like the last place you’ll find love. You’re stuck at home, you can’t go out to the pubs, clubs or bars, so how could you possibly meet someone? Well, lockdown may actually be the perfect place to find love. If you have seen Love Is Blind on Netflix, it’s all about getting to know the person before you even see them. During the lockdown, if you’re using online dating apps or ChatlineDating.com, then as you’re not able to meet the person just yet, you can’t rush into anything – in fact, you can simply spend the time getting to know the other person.
Tinder and Bumble have actually reported a double-digit increase in messages sent on these services during quarantine, so if you want to dip your toe in the online dating pool, now is a great time to do it as you certainly won’t be alone. We have a need for human connection, which has been magnified in this lockdown. So, let’s say you start talking to someone you like, what next?
The most important part of building a genuine connection is honesty, and because you can’t meet face to face, you can ask the questions you might not have the confidence to, if you were face-to-face. “For example, do you want kids and if so how many babies would you like?”
Arrange a first date over video call
Video calling has been the answer for business meetings and socializing with friends and family, so why not use it for dating too? A virtual date can actually be a lot better than a physical one because it’s more intimate as there are no distractions. Plus, you may even feel more relaxed as you’ll be in your own home and don’t even have to change out of your pajama bottoms if you don’t want to. You can spend the date really getting to know each other, telling each other your favorite things, and because you’ve been in lockdown and missing socializing, you’ll probably have plenty to say, and there’ll be no awkward silences.
Make a deeper connection
Just like in ‘Love Is Blind’, you should be able to make a deeper connection because you can’t meet. During this challenging time, you can get to know someone whilst going through a global pandemic and experience that is unlikely to be repeated in your lifetime, which means you can bond in a unique way. The most important part of building a genuine connection is honesty, and because you can’t meet face to face, you can ask the questions you might not have the confidence to, if you were face-to-face. You can really use the time to strengthen and build your relationship with the person you like, and as it’s such an uncertain time right now, it’s important to talk to people, let them in, and open up emotionally.
Get creative with your dates
Just because you can’t be together in person doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun date. Throughout this lockdown, we have seen proof of how quickly people can make the best out of a bad situation just by being positive. Why not take your date on some art gallery tours, do some virtual yoga, try baking or cooking the same thing, or even put the same film on at the same time and watch it together?
